You design the structures that make our batteries flyable. Your enclosures go into aircraft. Den Bosch. On-site. Full-time. Let's talk.
Job description
At Tulip Tech, we're not designing battery concepts. We're manufacturing them, at 450 Wh/kg, for drones and electric aircraft already in operation. Post-MoD funding secured, with TU Delft and NLR as partners, and every battery designed, tested, and built in-house in Den Bosch. Now we scale.
Why this role matters
The thing keeping our batteries airborne is a mechanical assembly that has to be light, strong, thermally sound, and manufacturable at scale. The mechanical engineer who joins us owns that chain: from first CAD model to shop-floor validation to production handover. We have electrical, software, and manufacturing teams. You will work closely with all of them. But the mechanical stack is yours.
What you will own
Define mechanical requirements from scratch: work with internal stakeholders to translate system-level constraints into design specifications before any CAD is opened
Design thermally efficient, lightweight battery enclosures and assemblies in SolidWorks: from first concept to release drawings
Prototype with CNC, 3D printing, and shop tools to validate your designs before they move to production
Validate structural integrity and environmental durability using FEA and thermal analysis: airborne conditions, vibration profiles, and thermal loads, not just lab conditions
Optimize for thermal management, shock resistance, and manufacturability across the product lifecycle
Work directly with electrical, manufacturing, and software teams on system integration: your enclosure has to fit the cells, survive the vibration profile, and come off the shop floor consistently
Document specifications, test results, and compliance data that gets a system certified and future engineers up to speed fast
Set mechanical design and manufacturing standards as we scale: what you write now becomes the baseline
Job requirements
Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of mechanical design in a manufacturing or production environment
Strong SolidWorks skills: assemblies, drawings, BOM management
Hands-on: you build and break things to prove they work, not just model them
Solid knowledge of manufacturing methods: CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal, extrusion
Experience with FEA and thermal analysis to validate designs under load
Nice to have: thermofluid knowledge, battery/drone/UAV/aerospace background, Dutch language skills
Interview process
Intro call (30 min)
Interview panel with the engineering team (60–90 min)
Offer
What we offer
Competitive salary between €3,500 – €4,500 gross/month (based on experience)
38 paid days off per year (25 vacation + 13 ADV via CAO Metaal & Techniek)
8% holiday allowance, travel reimbursement, and pension via PMT
Daily lunch provided by the company
Direct access to the full mechanical chain: from first CAD model to battery in the air
Flat team: your design decisions reach production fast
Work authorization
EU right to work required. No visa sponsorship due to defense-adjacent partnerships.
